CSCM booklet 2009
The CSCM was founded as an interdisciplinary center to achieve maximum synergy in research and teaching beyond boundaries of faculties. It was founded in 2005 by departments and research groups of the Medical Faculty, the Faculty of Technical and Natural Sciences, and the Research Center Borstel (FZB), to form a joint research platform in this field at the University of Lübeck. The CSCM is tightly linked to other local structures promoting molecular life science - the teaching programm in Molecular Life Science (MLS) of the University of Lübeck, the club "Life Sciences in Lübeck e.V.", as well as the "Lübeck Open Laboratory" (LOLA).
The main focus of the CSCM is the analysis of structure, function and biogenesis of supramolecular and subcellular assemblies that are important for intracellular parasitism, such as viruse, mammalian phagosomes, or signalling complexes important for infection and inflammation. These studies pave the way for the discovery of drugs interfering with the pathogenic activities of such assemblies.
